An Italian vegan woman has been ordered to pay a total of €900 in fines after threatening to ‘stab her mother’ for cooking ragu with meat, reports the Gazzetta di Modena.
The daughter, 48, moved in with her 69-year-old mother after losing her job. She told a court she hadn’t had any ‘sensory nor olfactory contact’ with animal products before returning home.
The pair clashed when the daughter threatened her mother with a knife after the smell of cooking meat permeated the small apartment they shared. It was reportedly the escalation of many rows around food.
‘I’ll make you stop’
“If you won’t stop on your own then I’ll make you stop,” the daughter said while holding a knife, according to her mother’s civil complaint.
“Quit making ragù, or I’ll stab you in the stomach.”
Following a failure to resolve the case through a two-year mediation process (the incident happened in 2016), Justice of Peace Nadia Trifilò sentenced the woman to pay a €400 court fine and €500 compensation to be paid to her mother.
