A vegan version of Cadbury’s Creme Egg tastes ‘as good as, if not better’ than the original, according to its creator.

The eggs were created by mother-daughter company Mummy Meagz five years ago, but recently launched online, garnering huge interest.

“We didn’t see why people should miss out on an indulgent Easter treat just because of their ethical lifestyle choices,” said Mummy Meagz owner, Meagan Boyle.

“As vegans we don’t want to eat any products derived from any animal. To us, a ‘regular’ cream egg isn’t normal, as we don’t think drinking milk from a cow is normal!

“We’d rather eat something that is made 100 percent from plants, but tastes as good as, if not better than, the dairy alternatives.”

Vegan chocolate

This Easter sees the most comprehensive range ever of vegan-friendly milk chocolate treats hit shelves, including Hotel Chocolat’s chocolate bunnies made with coconut powder.

“This Easter we’ve hopped skipped and jumped into the world of free-from chocolate,” says Hotel Chocolat. “These dairy-, gluten-, nut- and wheat-free Easter bunnies – which also happen to be vegan – are smooth and mellow, made with 45 percent cocoa so they taste just as good as our milk chocolate.
