An LA-based celebrity chef will be launching a vegan restaurant in east London next month.
Matthew Kenney, often cited as being one of the world’s leading plant-based foodies, will open an eatery called Essence in Shoreditch on September 4.
He has described his food as healthy and decadent at the same time.
‘Uncompromising’
He said: “It is food that doesn’t compromise on flavour or enjoyment of eating, yet maintains a high nutritional profile, and uncompromising ethical standards.
“There is a misconception that healthy food isn’t as tasty or decadent as unhealthy food.
“We challenge anyone to take a bite of our raw cakes or raw pancakes and see if they feel deprived.”
On the menu
Customers will be able to enjoy a number of drink options, including coffee, cold-pressed juices, organic cocktails, and biodynamic wines.
Breakfast options will include avocado on seeded bread, raw pancakes with candied walnuts, quinoa porridge, and scrambled chickpeas with green harissa.
Later meal offerings include raw pad Thai, lasagne, and a range of salads. The dessert menu includes a cheese board and chocolate brownie.
