Fast-food chain, Tim Hortons, is trialing the plant-based JUST egg at selected stores in Canada.
Customers can now opt for a ‘plant-based omelette’ made from JUST’s vegan eggs on any of its breakfast sandwiches, for a surcharge of $0.60.
‘Our proudest breakfast’
Signs advertising JUST egg – which is made primarily from mung beans -as ‘cholesterol-free’ have been spotted on social media – with Josh Tetrick, JUST CEO, and Co-Founder, describing the launch as “Our proudest breakfast.”
Andrew Noyes, a spokesperson for JUST, said in a statement: “The consumer demand for 100 percent plant-based proteins is strong and continues to grow. Canada is one of the most requested markets for JUST and we’re excited to be able to offer our product at select Tim Hortons locations for this market test.”
Beyond Meat
The food chain announced it would trial Beyond Meat’s plant-based sausage in selected stores back in May.
The meatless sausage is available in the form of the Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich, the Beyond Meat Farmers Breakfast Wrap, and the Beyond Meat Vegan Sandwich.
According to CNBC, Jane Almeida, a spokesperson for Tim Hortons, said: “We are always listening to our guests and testing a wide variety of potential products in select restaurants across the country.
“As you know, we recently introduced our Beyond Meat breakfast sandwiches and Beyond Burger. As we continue to test and get feedback, we will consider expanding plant-based options into other menu items.”
