Food technology company Impossible Foods has announced its aim to remove all farmed animals and replace them with plant-based products.

The Silicon Valley plant-based startup has revealed this week that it intends to ‘completely replace animals as a food production technology by 2035’.

Impossible Foods, which has been backed by Bill Gates and Google Ventures, is planning to replace chicken, pork, lamb, cheese, eggs, and fish.

The food tech brand is known for its plant meat Impossible burger, which tastes, cooks, and ‘bleeds’ – like real beef.

Take over

The company’s CEO, Patrick Brown, has disclosed his intention to take over animal agriculture at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The Stanford biochemist announced: “We want to completely replace animals as a food production technology by 2035.”

“We are working on producing all foods that we get from animals.”

Impossible Foods Chief Communications officer Rachel Konrad added: “We’re not a burger company.”

“We’re a tech platform for food. Our first product was ‘proof of concept’. We can have second, or tenth, products after that.”

The company opened a new manufacturing plant in Oakland this month, and has started producing one million pounds of plant-based ‘beef’ every month – and plans to reach 1,000 points of distribution by the end of the year.
