Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has added to its burgeoning vegan offerings with a super thick yogurt.
The product – which comes in strawberry and blueberry flavors – is made by Freaks of Nature, which also makes a line of desserts.
It is made from a cashew base, and is free from soya and gluten, as well as being Halal and Kosher.
‘Super excited’
Describing how the product is so thick, Freaks of Nature says: “Basically, we have a very crafty way to blend our ingredients which make them insanely smooth and creamy.
“It took us a long time to perfect it, but it was a fun journey. The recipes that we ended up with are version 40 or so. There was a lot of tasting.”
According to the company, it is ‘super excited’ that the yogurt is now available in selected Sainsbury’s stores, and that it is in talks with further outlets.
Veggie and vegan
The yogurt is just one of the products Sainsbury’s has recently added to its shelves in a bid to capitalize on the growing vegan, vegetarian, and flexitarian market.
These include beef and mince products from Naturli’ Foods, as well as the brand’s vegan butter.
Meat-Free Product Development Manager Rachel Mathews said: “We have a dedicated team here at Sainsbury’s working on how we diversify our range of vegetarian and vegan products, across many different supermarket aisles – from exclusive chilled products through to Love Veg! ready meals and even quick options for on the go.”
