Sandwich giant Subway is set to trial a Meatless Meatball Marinara sub in the UK.
The option will launch in Manchester and Birmingham stores from October 30 – though the chain has not specified which specific branches will stock the item.
If the sandwich is popular, the chain plans to roll out it nationwide from next year.
‘Exciting vegan product’
“We are currently trialing an exciting new vegan product, our Meatless Meatball Marinara, in a number of stores across the UK,” a Subway spokesperson said in a statement.
“We are hoping to introduce these nationwide early next year, so keep your eyes peeled, and we’ll let you know once we have more information!”
North American trial
Subway launched a trial of the sandwich in 685 of its North American stores in September, with plans to roll it out across the US and Canada pending demand.
The North American version of the sandwich featured Beyond Meat meatballs, as well as dairy cheese, which has to be removed to make the sandwich vegan.
Subway in the UK has not revealed whether the cheese on the sub is dairy, so while the spokesperson described the sandwich as vegan, customers should check at the point of ordering.
