Major retailer, Sainsbury’s, has expanded its vegan Easter egg range after two of Buttermilk’s dairy-free chocolate eggs hit the shelves.
The Cornish company’s Chocolate Orange and Chocolate Honeycomb Easter eggs are stocked in stores nationwide and have gained certification from the Vegan Society.
The plant-based products retail at £6 per egg and are free from any artificial flavors or colors.
Award-winning treats
Buttermilk states on its website: “We’ve introduced a delicious chocolate alternative egg to our collection, free from dairy, gluten, and wheat so everyone can enjoy a treat this Easter.
“Our award-winning treats are still lovingly handmade in-house by our craft confectioners using our traditional methods. We continue to stay true to our heritage, so our skilled team can still be found using traditional copper pans over open flames, to blend ingredients for our indulgent, mouth-watering treats.”
The company is also using a compostable cellulose packaging for some of its products, in a bid to tackle plastic pollution.
‘A step in the right direction’
Tracy, Buttermilk’s MD, said: “Being based in Cornwall means we’re surrounded by beaches so we see first-hand the importance of incorporating environmentally-sustainable packaging materials.
“We very much believe customers will agree with us that this is a step in the right direction.”
