Sainsbury’s has announced its vegan Christmas menu – which includes dishes like seitan wellington and pigs in blankets.

The UK retail giant is offering these options via its ‘Food to Order’ online delivery service.

Vegan options

The Christmas centerpiece is the Vegan No Beef Wellington, which according to the retailer, is ‘a parcel any vegan would be glad to receive this Christmas’.

“Inside, you’ll find a succulent mushroom, parsnip and seitan loaf layered with tender spinach leaf and a rich mushroom, porcini and port wine duxelles,” says the product’s description.

An alternative option is the Three Nut & Mushroom Roast with Redcurrant & Port Gravy, which Sainsbury’s says is ‘a delicious alternative to the traditional turkey roast with crunchy cashews, almonds, pistachios, mushrooms, and butternut squash’.

Another veg-heavy option is the Jewelled Root Vegetable Wreath with mixed berry sauce, which features cranberries, pomegranate seeds and pumpkin seeds on a wreath of chunky butternut squash, sweet potato, and chestnut.

Alternatively, Sainsbury’s has created what it describes as a ‘true showstopper’ of a dish – the Vegan Lentil, Cranberry and Almond Melt in the Middle Pudding.

“Packed with lentils, onions, cranberries, apricots and almonds, the savory pudding has a hidden centre filled with a vegan cheese sauce. Finish off by pouring over the deliciously sticky and sweet cranberry and redcurrant glaze for a true showstopper,” says the retailer.

“Simply order your special Christmas meal or impressive party spread and leave the rest to us. We’ll make sure it’s ready for the big day, so you can enjoy the festivities.”
