A meat-free apartment complex will be opening its doors in the suburbs of St. Petersburg, Russia next year.

The complex, which is the first of its kind in Russia, will also be alcohol and cigarettes-free, in a bid to create an opportunity for like-minded people.

The building developers aim to devise a sustainable community that will become self-sufficient in terms of energy, water, waste treatment, and food production.

Opportunity

Called Veda Village, the complex will also include a veggie restaurant, a yoga center, gym spa, shops, day-care facility, and an education center.

“The main thing about this complex is an opportunity to live and evolve together with like-minded people,” Maya Podlipskaya, manager of Veda Village, told Russian news outlet TASS.

According to her, the sales agent will be holding an interview with potential buyers to find out whether they are vegetarian or not.

“If not, the client gets a refusal,” Podlipskaya added.

Complex

Smoking and drinking alcohol are also prohibited on the grounds of the apartment complex.

The living complex, which consists of seven multi-floor residential buildings designed for 210 families, has been employed using feng shui (Chinese system of harmonizing everything) and Vastu (a traditional Hindu system of architecture) principles.

The construction of two residential buildings has already been completed, with the third expected to be finished next year.
