Coconut milk specialist Rebel Kitchen has released a new plant-based mylk.
According to the company, the drink ‘tastes just like dairy milk’.
Like dairy, it comes in three varieties, skimmed, semi-skimmed and whole – and the packaging, with red, green and blue markings, corresponds to its dairy-based counterparts.
The amount of coconut cream in the milk determines the variety.
The mylk, which is available now in the chiller department in Waitrose, is made from a base of Himalayan salt, brown rice, cashews and nutritional yeast.
‘Next step’
Adam Thompson, Commercial Director at Rebel Kitchen, said: “We believe this is the next step in innovation for the free-from milk category.
“Never before have consumers been able to shop this category like the traditional dairy aisle. We see Mylk as a contender for dairy sales.
“This is a fast-growing category with plenty of potential, in 2002 milk alternatives sales were only five per cent of those of cow milk’s – by 2021 they will be 20 per cent.”
