Sales of plant-based Christmas food have surged by 40 percent at Waitrose.

The UK supermarket, which believes 2019 is the biggest year yet for festive vegan meals, has increased its animal-free offerings in recent times to include a range of starters, mains, and desserts.

And according to the retail giant, customers have been snapping up these products in significant numbers, with the vegan festive wreath, mushroom and leek bangers, and mushroom and chestnut pâté among the bestselling options.

Vegan Christmas

“Our vegan range has been growing in popularity for a number of years,” Charlotte McCarthy, vegan and vegetarian buyer at Waitrose & Partners, told The Grocer.

However, we anticipate this Christmas will be the biggest ever for vegan food.

“We’ve worked really hard to ensure that there is an exciting range available for our customers and that we offer an entirely vegan Christmas dinner – trimmings and all.”
