London supermarket chain, Planet Organic, has recently welcomed a vegan salmon sushi set served in plastic-free, biodegradable packaging.
The product, created by plant-based company Ima, uses a secret ‘exotic’ vegetable to replicate the taste and texture of smoked salmon.
Rebelling against the fishing industry
Ima’s website reads:” Ima is here to rebel against the usual sushi company. When you choose ima, you know you are helping the planet because we are 100 percent vegan so all the amazing fish are still in the ocean.
“We’re friends of the ocean. It makes sense for us at Ima, because sushi comes from the ocean, but plastic sushi containers and soy sauce tubs are polluting the ocean. We want to change this. That’s why we use sugar cane trays which are 100% biodegradable!”
‘Better than any sushi I’ve ever had’
Instagram user, Veganlovinglife, posted: “This was the. Best. Thing. Ever. Oh my God. If you like sushi you will love this, even if you hate sushi you will love this. [It’s] completely vegan and completely delish – tasted 1000000% better than any sushi I’ve ever had and I’m not even kidding! You have to head to Planet Organic.”
Ima, who handmakes its products from its own family kitchen, also creates plant-based onigiri triangles and sushi burritos, including a vegan tuna and sweetcorn wrap, with an egg-free mayonnaise.
