Pizza Hut will launch vegan stuffed crust pizza across the UK on February 26, according to Vegan Food UK.
Vegan Food UK is an online organization sharing vegan food news, reviews, vlogs, and more. It operates across multiple social media platforms, with a Facebook group, Facebook page, YouTube channel, and Instagram account.
It revealed the news in an Instagram post earlier today.
Vegan stuffed crust
The post reads: “OMG! Vegan Stuffed Crust Launches at Pizza Hut tomorrow.
“The first mainstream restaurant vegan stuffed crust pizza will launch tomorrow at Pizza Hut.
“Just choose any vegan pizza and make it a ‘stuffed crust’ for £2.50. And yes they are using Violife cheese for it (picture is not the actual pizza or cheese, sorry guys.”
‘Natural next step’
Ciara Grace, Senior Menu Innovation Manager at Pizza Hut Restaurants confirmed the news in a statement sent to Plant Based News, saying: “We’re always looking into new and exciting ways to develop our menu and cater to as many guests as possible. The Vegan Stuffed Crust was naturally the next step for us to grow our plant-based offering at Pizza Hut Restaurants. We’re really excited to launch the Vegan Stuffed Crust as we’re confident it’s going to be a hit on both taste and texture.”
Simon Orchard, UK & Ireland Country Manager, added: “The stuffed crust pizza has been a firm favourite for 25 years, and Violife are excited to be partnering with Pizza Hut to make a vegan version a reality.
“We can’t wait for customers to try the deliciously melty new stuffed crust, and help continue to show people that’s it’s never been easier to go dairy-free.”
Vegan Pizza Hut
Pizza Hut has expanded its vegan offering in recent times, and confirmed last month that it would be adding more options to its animal-free menu.
The chain has just added the ‘Pepperphoni’ pie it trialed in January to its permanent menu. The Vegan Pepperphoni Pizza (priced from £11.69) – the chain’s seventh plant-based pie – is topped with meat-free ‘Pepperphoni’ made from pea protein and Violife vegan cheese.
The new pie joined a range of options including the Vegan Hot and Spicy, Margherita, and All About Mushrooms among others.
‘More responsible’
In addition to offering consumers more choice, Pizza Hut revealed earlier this year that it wants to become a cabon-neutral business by 2030, and plant-based food is part of its plans to achieve this.
“At Pizza Hut Restaurants we are dedicated to evolving our practices and processes with the aim of being a more responsible business,” said CEO Jens Hofma.
“Our vegan menu is one of the many initiatives we have in place – including our food donation program and our continued commitment to food waste reduction.
“Having easy access to alternative products will be key to help us stay on track, that’s why we’ve already started introducing milk alternatives at our Restaurant Support Centre and also have a dedicated company vegan group set up for all our team members to share their experiences and useful hints and tips to eating vegan.”
The Vegan Stuffed Crust option, featuring Violife, is available as an Individual Pizza for a £2.50 add on cost. Pizza Hut Restaurants’ vegan options are available to dine-in and take-out at every restaurant in England, Scotland and Wales, and for delivery from selected Pizza Hut Restaurants on Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
