Pizza Express Expands Vegan Menu With New Starter And Main

1 Minutes Read

High street chain Pizza Express has expanded its vegan menu with two new dishes; a starter – Rosemary & Garlic Flatbread with Houmous – and the Mezze Pizza main.

The pizza features smoked chili chargrilled aubergine, tomato, sundried tomato harissa, garlic oil, jalapeño and Roquito peppers finished with rocket and houmous on a Romana base.

“Big news…..we have houmous on our menu,” said Pizza Express. “Rosemary & Garlic Flatbread with Houmous. This could be the starter that takes on and defeats our Dough Balls and garlic butter.”

Vegan at Pizza Express

Pizza Express has increased its vegan offering in recent years, in a bid to meet rising customer demand.

It first added vegan cheese to its menu in 2017, saying that ‘the world of vegan ingredients has opened up and become so interesting, enticing and tasty too’.

Since then, the chain has released more pizza options, pasta, and vegan carrot cake.

Vegan meals

“Considering that almost a third of all evening meals eaten in the UK are now vegetarian or vegan, and over a fifth (22 percent) of the population is actively choosing gluten-free foods, it’s no surprise to see this consumer behavior driving restaurant and delivery meal choices,” Timothy Love, Senior Marketing Manager at Pizza Express, has said about developing its options.

“We’ve led the restaurant market, developing a full range of vegan and vegetarian offerings with over 20 toppings to choose from, plus we were early to introduce gluten-free dishes.

“This innovation is set to continue, and we’re delighted to see such positive response to our menu.”
