Papa John’s Pizza has expanded its vegan options, welcoming the addition of two new sides: Sheese Crinkle Wedges and Sheese & Jalapeno Crinkle Wedges.
Costing £3.99, or £4.99 with the addition of jalapeno, the oven-baked, crinkle cut potato wedges were previously suitable for vegans if ordered plain. Now, the sides can be ordered with Sheese – a dairy-free alternative created by Bute Island Foods.
Vegan Blogger, Jasmine Russell, wrote on Instagram: “The cheese is perfectly crispy and delicious on the top and all melts and gooey on the underneath, 10/10 recommend. Although I still prefer the marmite scrolls because…marmite on everything “
Responding to demand
Early this year, a staggering 30,000 people signed an online petition urging Papa John’s to join other major pizza outlets – including Pizza Hut, Zizzi, and Pizza Express – which have all added vegan cheese to their menus.
The fast-food company since released three vegan pizzas: ‘Vegan Sheese and Tomato’, ‘Garden Party with Sheese’, and ‘Hot Pepper Passion with Vegan Sheese’. It also debuted its vegan Marmite and Sheese Scrolls.
‘The best vegan products’
Managing Director at Papa John’s, Liz Williams, said: “Papa John’s is committed to delivering better ingredients, better pizza and we’re excited to expand our menu so those with plant-based diets or dietary restrictions can enjoy it too.
“We worked closely with PETA who helped us develop the recipes and find the best vegan products, so we expect that the new additions will be a huge hit.”
