Food giant Papa John’s has welcomed vegan Ben & Jerry’s Coconutterly Caramel’d ice cream to its UK menu.
The coconut and caramel Fairtrade ice-cream isn’t made from almond milk like the brand’s other dairy-free options, and features ‘caramel and cookie swirls and chocolatey pieces’.
Priced at £5.49 for a 500ml tub, customers can now also use offers such as the ‘Party Bundle’.
Vegan options
Earlier this year, Papa John’s launched vegan cheese across the UK, following a petition that received a staggering 30,000 signatures.
Since then, the pizza chain has introduced a plant-based meat as it introduced its limited edition vegan hot dog pizza.
“Papa John’s is committed to delivering BETTER INGREDIENTS, BETTER PIZZA and we’re excited to expand our menu so those with plant-based diets or dietary restrictions can enjoy it too,” Liz Williams, Managing Director at Papa John’s, said as the new menu was launched.
“We worked closely with PETA who helped us develop the recipes and find the best vegan products, so we expect that the new additions will be a huge hit.”
‘A game changer’
PETA Director of Vegan Corporate Projects, Dawn Carr, described the plant-based menu as a ‘game changer’.
“We applaud Papa John’s – the first national pizza-delivery chain in the UK to offer dairy-free cheese at all of its locations – for meeting the surging demand for vegan options and giving everyone the chance to enjoy the food they love,” Carr added.
