Pizza chain Papa John’s is being urged to add vegan cheese to its menu.
Animal rights organization, Animal Aid has partenered top vegan food news outlet Vegan Food UK to launch a petition calling for the dairy-free option.
According to the organizations, while Papa John’s offers vegan-friendly bases and sauces, it is one of the few only major pizza chains not to offer a vegan cheese alternative – with Pizza Express, Pizza Hut, and Domino’s UK* among those who do.
Vegan cheese
“Papa John’s is perhaps the only major pizza chain in the UK not to offer a vegan cheese alternative, despite the evident demand for plant-based products,” Animal Aid Campaign Manager, Tod Bradbury, said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.
“Most other pizza chains have recognized this and have started to offer vegan cheese, and so we are calling on Papa John’s not to get left behind and to follow suit. Pizza without cheese just isn’t the same.”
Vegan-friendly
“Over the last few years the vegan community in the UK has appreciated Papa John’s for offering decent vegan-friendly pizza bases and sauces, but vegan cheese is also a requirement for any decent pizza,” added Liam Day, Co-founder of Vegan Food UK.
“We feel very passionately that all take-away food places should offer appropriate vegan options, the demand is there and it’s growing every day.”
Anybody interested is urged to sign the petition
