The result of growing vegan demand can be seen clearly in the number of food makers, retailers and wholesalers who are starting to add plant-based products to their offerings.
While herbivores can often find food free of animal products on menus, it has typically been more difficult to distinguish whether wine is vegan.
While the primary component of wine – grapes – is obviously plant-based, the way the drink is processed can involve fish parts or egg. This means it is off the menu for vegans.
This is set to change with an announcement from Wholesaler Giant Continental Quattro Stagioni [CQS], which has just added five wines to its offerings.
CQS, an importer and distributor of Italian food, supplies food and drink to a huge number of independent and chain restaurants, pubs and catering companies.
According to the company, the addition of vegan wine will ‘help its customers to cater for the changing dietary
preferences of their clientele’.
The range includes two reds – Organic Montepulciano D’Abruzzo DOC and Sunelle Bio
Organic Rosso, and three whites; Organic Trebbiano D’Abruzzo, Bio
Organic Bianco IGT and Bio Organic Pinot Grigio.
