The gluten-free dog, which is 10-inches long, was created by Moving Mountains, the UK tech company behind the ‘bleeding’ Moving Mountains’ Burger. The main ingredient is sunflower seeds. It also features carrots, coconut oil, onion, and paprika.
It was initially launched in Earthling Ed’s Shoreditch Diner Unity earlier this month with a retail launch slated to follow.
Vegan hot dog
“As I learned when I tried the hot dog…with that classic red-brown sheen, and an appealingly authentic smokiness, it certainly looks right and it smells right,” says The Washington Post‘s review.
“And the flavor? Put it this way: If you didn’t know this was a meat-free product, you probably wouldn’t guess.
“It’s miles ahead of most vegan hot dogs — heck, it’s better than most pork (and beef-based) hot dogs, even down to the texture and the snap when you first bite into it.”
According to Moving Mountains Founder Simeon Van der Molen, the hot dog has ‘an identical taste and texture’ to its traditional meaty counterpart.
“Following the success of the UK’s first meatless bleeding burger, our second launch is set to make hot dogs desirable again, giving them a long-deserved revamp,” he told The Guardian.
“We use sunflower seeds to deliver an identical taste and texture, which is a more sustainable food option for our health and the health of the planet.”
