UK supermarket giant, Morrisons, has welcomed a vegan BBQ pulled jackfruit pizza to its make-your-own pizza counters.

Using jackfruit to replicate the texture of pulled pork, the pizza also features Violife’s dairy-free cheese, peppers, red onion, and sweetcorn. But customers can customize which toppings they want at the counter.

The pizzas are currently priced at £2.75 each or two for £5.

‘This has surprised meat-eaters’

Morrisons Pizza Buyer, Charlotte Shores said: “This has surprised meat-eaters and vegans with how close it tastes to its meatier counterpart. We hope that all our customers enjoy this amazing vegan pizza.”

The supermarket also states that while the recipe is suitable for vegans, the product is made in an ‘open food area’ where ingredients unsuitable for vegans are also handled – so there may be risk of cross-contamination.

Vegan range

In November last year, Morrisons launched a range of affordable vegan products dubbed V Taste – priced between £1 and £3.

The range included a Lentil Hotpot, 3 Bean Chilli Non-Carne, and Vegetarian Quarter Pounders, as well as red velvet and chocolate cupcakes.
