MorningStar Farms’ corn dogs are now suitable for vegans, according to animal rights charity PETA.

The veggie brand, which is owned by global food giant Kellogg’s, is set to ditch all animal products and go vegan by 2021.

More than 50 percent of its portfolio, which includes burgers, sausages, and nuggets, has been transitioned – now the corn dogs join that list.

‘No gross mystery ingredients’

Animal rights charity PETA is delighted that the dogs are now plant-based, saying: “We couldn’t be happier that MorningStar Farms’ Veggie Classics Corn Dogs are now completely animal-free.

“Note: Please be sure to check the ingredients list on the packaging to ensure that the product is vegan, because earlier nonvegan versions may still be on some shelves.

“Countless pigs, cows, and other animals suffer unimaginably when they’re made into hot dogs. Some meatless corn dogs still contain eggs and dairy ingredients in the crust, but these delicious animal-free options are proof that no animal needs to suffer for a corn dog.”

‘Vegan opportunity’

Speaking back in March, when making the announcement about the brand going vegan, Mel Cash, Head of Global Marketing, Plant-Based Protein at Kellogg Company, said: “This is a very exciting opportunity for us – by making this change, MorningStar Farms favorites can be enjoyed by even more people at home and on-the-go who strive to add plant-based proteins to their plate.

“This will also help us further our commitment to a greener world by helping to reduce the water waste, land usage, and carbon emissions associated with egg production.”
