Vegan superstar
Miley Cyrus appeared in a floor-length Stella McCartney gown at the Met Gala on
Monday – and used her time in the spotlight to promote veganism.
Message
In a brief Vogue Magazine interview, the pop star and animal advocate – who attended the Gala
with McCartney herself – told actress Liza Koshy she had a message to spread.
Cyrus said: “I’m here so excited to be a part of this because I think this moment can be
about so many different things, and for me I want to bring a message which is
veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion.”
McCartney
added: “You can be stylish, and sustainable all at the same time.”
Social
media
Cyrus also
took to social media to share her message, plastering her Instagram account with photos of
herself in the jaw-dropping dress, and sharing both video and stills in her
Instagram story.
One caption
read: “Thank you @stellamccartney for having me as your date & shining a
bright light on sustainable non violent fashion!”
Stella
McCartney
McCartney has
become a designer known for her efforts to improve a notoriously
wasteful, often exploitive, fashion industry.
In fact,
she was recognized by the British Fashion Council for her work in sustainability
and animal rights, was honored for one of her designs with a PETA fashion award,
and has partnered with PETA to challenge students to event a vegan wool
alternative.
