Another two major fashion brands have pledged to ditch fur.
Global fashion brand Michael Kors Holdings Limited – which includes Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo – announced today that it will no longer use animal fur in its products.
Production will be phased out by the end of December 2018.
‘New direction’
Company’s Chairman and CEO, John D. Idol, said: “I am pleased to announce our company’s commitment to no longer use animal fur in our Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo collections.
“This decision marks a new chapter as our company continues to evolve its use of innovative materials.”
Designer Michael Kors added: “Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur.
“We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”

‘Another step’
Campaigners have welcomed the news.
Mark Glover, Campaigns Director of anti-fur organization Respect for Animals, said: “This announcement by Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo is great news.
“100 million animals are killed every year just for their fur – a product nobody needs.
“The suffering these animals endure is extreme and completely unnecessary.
“Today’s announcement is another step towards the day when this appalling treatment of the animals we share the planet with is brought to an end.”
Monumental
Joh Vinding, Chairman of the Fur Free Alliance, added: “The Fur Free Alliance congratulates Michael Kors for this monumental achievement.
“It’s becoming increasingly clear that fashion companies and consumers alike want nothing to do with unnecessary animal cruelty, especially when innovative alternatives are available.”
With this announcement, Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo have joined the international Fur Free Retailer Program.
It joins Gucci, Armani, Yoox Net-a-Porter, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, and Elisabetta Franchi in creating fur-free high end fashion.
