A Farmers Dairy processing facility in Nova Scotia is under investigation by The Canadian Food Inspection Agency [CFIA] after a number of consumers complained of being ill from consuming its products.
The CFIA says it is ‘acting as quickly as possible’, and that a medical professional should be consulted should anyone get sick.
Various returns have been made to Nova Scotian grocery stores, and Farmers’ rep Veronique Boileau said the event is isolated.
She added: “We are still investigating the matter to find the exact cause.”
‘Disgusting’
Commenters on a thread on the topic on social media site Reddit are outraged, describing the ‘disgusting’ taste and smell as ‘chemical’ or ‘ash’ like, some saying they will be switching to a different brand.
In the Halifax Vegans and Vegetarians Facebook group, Cheryl Alexander shared the news, calling it yet ‘another reason to avoid’ dairy.
Group member Rachelle Sparks simply said: “Cows milk is meant for cows.”
