Plant-based MMA fighter James Wilks features in Men Health’s list of ‘The 13 Most Influential Men In Health & Fitness’.
Wilks, one of the producers of The Game Changers, is listed alongside well-known figures such as wrestler Dwayne Johnson.
Co-founder of Headspace, Andy Puddicombe, and COVID-19 vaccine maker Adrian Hall are also featured.
‘Veganism used to have an image problem’
“Veganism used to have an image problem. Or, more specifically, vegan men, who have often been unfairly characterised as oversensitive and underfed,” Men’s Health wrote.
“With his documentary The Game Changers… Wilks ripped this idea up at its roots, arguing not only that meat is expendable in the quest for strength, but that a plant-based diet is actually superior for athletes of all disciplines.”
James Wilks blasts factory farming
Earlier this year, Wilks, amongst a plethora of celebrities such as Joaquin Phoenix, blasted factory farming for its link to COVID-19.
He said: “The funny thing is people say we don’t want to spread disease so we should separate and have this social distancing. Well, what are we doing to animals that are in factory farms?
“What conditions are they in? It’s no wonder that disease is spreading among those animals and then it transfers over to humans.”
