Former Dairy Goes Vegan: Launches Major New Plant-Based Milk Range

A former dairy company, which ditched cows to go plant-based, is launching four new vegan milk drinks.

The four new products from Elmhurst, which produced cow’s milk for 90 years before switching to plants in 2017, include walnut, peanut, oat, and cashew-based drinks.

They are all free-from artificial flavors, carrageenan, gums or other emulsifiers as well as being gluten-free, vegan, kosher and non-GMO. According to the company, it uses a patented ‘HydroRelease™ technology’ using water to extract nutrients from raw grains, nuts, and seeds, meaning it can create a smooth and ‘creamy’ texture without adding gums and emulsifiers.

The new drinks straddle a number of categories; Unsweetened Walnut and Unsweetened Cashew are the latest two varieties to join the company’s range with no added sugar. They contain filtered water and nuts.

The Milked Oats Barista Edition is the first product to launch in Elmhurst’s upcoming Barista line. A statement sent to Plant Based News said: “This new product is formulated to deliver a rich, creamy consistency and high performance in barista applications like steaming and foaming, making it perfect for over-the-counter and at-home coffee use.”

The final product – Chocolate Peanut Protein – is the brand’s first entry into the ready-to-drink protein shake category, with more drinks to follow. It contains 20 grams plant-based protein in a 200 calorie carton.

Elmhurst products are available at a number of grocers across the country, including Whole Foods, Fairway, Wegmans, and Walmart. The new products will be available in store ‘soon’, according to the company, with Unsweetened Walnut and Unsweetened Cashew currently available online on the company website and Amazon.
