Dairy giant The Bel Group is said to be launching a vegan version of its iconic Babybel cheese, according to a new report.
FoodBev Media states the French company will debut its plant-based Mini Babybel ‘project’ in the U.S next year – and will also sell a vegan cream cheese under its Boursin brand, which is rumored to debut on Amazon Fresh.
It also says The Bel Group has partnered with TerraCycle to help achieve its target of making 100 percent of its packaging recyclable and/or biodegradable by 2025.
‘The plant-based era’
Earlier this year, The Bel Group became the majority shareholder in All In Foods – a plant-based startup that makes vegan dairy products under its Nature & Moi brand.
Commenting on the company’s acquisition, The Bel Group’s Chairman and CEO Antoine Fievet said it has ‘enhanced its entry into the plant-based era and confirms its strong ambitions’.
According to Dairy Reporter, Fievet added: “We continue to diversify our product offering to meet new consumer expectations, and we are guided by our mission to champion healthier and responsible food for all.”
Vegan Food UK
Popular Instagram account Vegan Food UK has also reported the launch, suggesting Bel will also release vegan cheese triangles under its ‘The Laughing Cow’ brand.
“The company Bel behind the cheeses, plan to also make them international at some point – which we hope means we will be enjoying them [in the U.K] next year too…but let’s wait and see,” Vegan Food UK said.
