Coughlans Bakery has launched what it describes as the U.K’s first vegan bacon wellington.

The award-winning bakers has partnered with vegan meat brand THIS to create the footlong masterpiece.

It features home mushroom-based ‘beef’, herbs, spices, plant-based baked, and vegan puff pastry.

The Wellington is priced at £12 and serves six. It is only available for a limited time in 26 select stores across South London and Surrey from 29 November 2020.

‘Great tasting vegan food’

Sean Coughlan is the Founder of Coughlans Bakery. In a statement sent to Plant Based News, he said: “I’ve made it my mission to come up with great tasting vegan food by using our traditional skills… Nearly all of our customers can’t tell the difference between the meat and meat-free versions of our pastries.

“After months of test recipes, our vegan beef in the Wellington takes three days to make… The addition of THIS Isn’t Bacon gives it that extra dimension to make the perfect pairing.

“We add a few more important secret ingredients that pack the Wellington with that meaty flavor.”

‘Wellington is a stalwart’

Co-founder of THIS Andy Shovel added: “This is one of the most innovative launches I’ve seen.

“Our mission is to be the plant-based brand for meat-lovers and Wellington is a stalwart. The Coughlans team has done an amazing job.”
