Fast food chain Leon has launched a new vegan burger.
The LOVe burger is made with a vegan (soya-beetroot) patty topped with a vegan Carolina mustard mayo, burger sauce, tomatoes, pickles and a slice of smoked gouda-style vegan cheese.
It is available in all 52 UK Leon outlets now and will be arriving in Leon in the US by the end of the month.
Gut health
According to Leon, the burger has been developed ‘in response to a growing body of evidence supporting a link between gut and mental health’.
Gut health specialist Dr. Megan Rossi says has a more plant-based diet can encourage the growth of healthy gut microbiota that in turn, can talk to our brain.
Vegan burger
“Eating a diet full of plants of all colours, fresh herbs and spices, good fats, seeds and nuts, and considering meat and fish as a side dish, with a healthy dose of fermented food in the mix too, makes for a happy, healthy gut – and in turn the potential for a happier, healthier you,” Dr. Megan Rossi said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.
The LOve burger contains 482 calories, 15g of protein, 8g of monounsaturated and 10g of polyunsaturated fats (the good fats that can help lower cholesterol levels in the blood and support healthy cells). It also contains 7g of fiber.
