One of the UK’s most prestigious cookery schools is launching its first 100 percent vegan course this fall.
Leiths School of Food and Wine – which is located in London – has already sold out the newly-launched plant-based classes.
The famed school will be hosting another vegan course in the spring, as well as a series of plant-based cookery lessons in the near future.
Demand
Leiths Managing Director Camilla Schneideman claims veganism has become increasingly popular in the UK.
The vegan course sold out in record time: within 36 hours after sending out an offer to Veganuary followers.
“We’ve noticed a definite surge in the demand for nutritional knowledge combined with practical cookery skills over the past few years, which led to the launch of our Nutrition in Practice course,” said Schneideman.
A spokesperson told PBN: “We have seen the trend growing and noticed that people who are really quite ‘foodie’ are seeking out vegan recipes and restaurants, which is a huge change even in the space of the last few years.”
Called ‘The Essential Vegan’, the upcoming course is designed to help people transition to a vegan diet, ‘making it less daunting’.
Plant-based
A Leiths spokesperson told PBN that they’re ‘delighted and surprised’ that the story has resonated with so many people.
“The response we’ve had to the release of the class is exciting; it shows that the perception of veganism is changing on a large scale,” says Schneideman.
The menu will feature a wide selection of cuisines, including: egg-free mayonnaise, vegetable stock from scratch, dairy-free cheese sauce, risotto, and chocolate mousse with tahini biscuits, among others.
The next vegan course will be running in April 2018, with the possibility of an evening course launching in the near future as well. The evening course will be focusing on baking, dinner parties, and nutrition.
