Emirates Airline has reported a 40 percent increase in onboard requests for vegan meals in January compared to last year.

20,000 vegan meals served in January

The airline, which was voted best airline for vegan meals last year, served over 20,000 vegan meals during January, ranking as the third most commonly requested special meal by economy class passengers.

Emirates Airline has over 170 plant-based recipes in its kitchen, including vegetable tagine with couscous, mushroom ravioli, and sweet potato, lentil and spinach ragout with brown rice.

They also offer a selection of vegan desserts such as a key lime parfait with date and citrus compote, a ‘moist’ chocolate cake, and a chia seed pudding.

18,000kgs of vegan cheese

The airline introduced a dairy-free cheese on board in April last year and have since served 18,000 kgs of the nut-based vegan cheese.

Vegan meals, including raw vegan, are available on all Emirates flights and across all classes as long as they’re requested 24 hours before departure.
