US health-food brand, Dr. Praeger’s, has announced
the release a new range of plant-based meats.
While the brand already offers a number of
vegan items – including Sensible Foods Four Potato Puffs, Root Veggie
Hashbrowns, and Mushroom Risotto Veggie Burgers – the new high-protein range will carry the Plant Pure Protein label.
‘Protein’
Offerings will include two plant-based patties, mock chicken
tenders in three different flavors, vegan sausages, and Super Greens Veggie
Nuggets.
The plant-based meats have been made using starches,
legumes, vegetables, and pea protein – and all contain at least 10 grams of
protein per serving.
Company CEO Larry Praeger said: “We’re bringing clean
ingredients to the growing meatless category and packing in the protein while
loading up with real vegetables for added nutrition – without any of the fake
stuff making headlines.”
Growing demand
The New Jersey-based company is targeting an increasing
market of ‘flexitarians’ – a similar approach to that of mock-meat giant Beyond
Meat – as opposed to focusing on a niche market of strict vegetarians or
vegans.
Praeger said: “Flexitarians are one of the fastest-growing
groups out there.
“They want and deserve better tasting meatless products with
ingredients they know and recognize. This is for them.”
