Plant Based News is hosting a new documentary which explores how a plant-based diet can help those with chronic pain.
On a Scale of 1 to 10, the Silent Epidemic is now available to watch on PBN‘s YouTube channel.
The film explores attitudes toward health and chronic pain, and how a change in mindset combined with a plant-based diet, allows people to reclaim their full potential. It features Dr. Neal Barnard, Mimi Kirk, and Dr. Michael Klaper among others.
Making a movie
Filmmaker Laurent Goldstein told PBN the team started making the documentary in the Spring of 2017. “It took us two years to shoot the film, and we traveled all over North America. We were in post-production for about four months,” he added.
According to Goldstein, he was inspired to make the film because he wanted to help people with chronic pain look at what is possible.
“Witnessing my mom struggling with chronic pain for the last 20 years of her life, my own history with debilitating back pain, my partner Jennifer’s experience with endometriosis, and the fact that I had spent 20 years attending and organizing health and wellness seminars, were all motivating factors,” he added.
“I have been inspired along the way, listening to people’s stories and recoveries from the most desperate situations.”
Impact
He believes the film has huge potential to make a significant impact ‘because it touches people at an emotional level and it also gives them hope’.
“The topic of chronic pain is a depressing topic. However, I did not want to make a film that would be depressing. I wanted to make a film that would move people emotionally and also inspire them to make changes,” he said.
“I believe the film can have a massive impact. There is an opioid crisis right now, and people are dying. People with chronic pain often feel let down by the medical system. Watching the film, they realize how much power they have in their own hands and how they can directly impact their health positively, by implementing some simple changes, like switching to a plant-based diet.
“What makes the film unique, is also the fact that we offer solutions that are practical and at the same time, shining the light on the mental and emotional components of chronic pain. We are starting a movement expanding from the film, with our Mind/Body, Reset Summit.”
On a Scale of 1 to 10, the Silent Epidemic will open the International IPain Foundation Summit in Los Angeles. In addition, the Foundation has recognized the film with the 2019 Community Impact Award.
