A new meal delivery service aimed at making plant-based nutrition easier for parents will launch later this month.

The Illinois-based business – called Little Harvest – has been founded by a former business developer at plant-based giant Daiya Foods.

Ashley Gilday was inspired to start Little Harvest after the birth of her son Oskar. Her aim was to help busy families feed their children nutritious vegan meals.

The products, which include organic ready-to-eat meals and purees – are suitable for babies and toddlers from four months to two years plus. The meals are planned with a Pediatric Nutritionist and ingredients are sourced from local farms.

Vegan ‘core values’

Meals are delivered in biodegradable cool boxes within 24 hours of being made.

Animal ingredients are never included in the meals, which cost from $3.27 a day. The company says being plant-based is a ‘core value’ of the business.

Locals can buy Little Harvest food from Chicago’s Logan Square Farmers’ Market during the summer. Those further afield can check the site for delivery details.

Gilday plans to expand company operations so the business can serve most of the Midwest within the next nine months.
