Dairy Company Launches Vegan Cheese – And Norway Goes Crazy

2 Minutes Read

Norwegian dairy company Synnøve Finden has diversified its operations – and released two vegan products as part of a new plant-based line called ‘Go Vegan’.

The company, which is best known for its cheese and drinks, is the first Norwegian dairy brand to offer a vegan cheese alternative.

The products include a shredded and sliced cheese alternative – and both items have been very successful.

Foodie Mateo Lundstøl told PBN: “Through what I’ve seen, it’s been sold out at most stores and people are going crazy over it in Norwegian vegan forums.

“The cheese can be found at Rema 1000, Meny, Spar and Joker supermarkets which take up pretty much all of Norwegians regular grocery shops.

“Reactions have been mixed, with some not being too impressed, but I’ve heard mostly positive feedback, personally I love it and think it makes the best cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve tasted in some time.”

Green wave

Lundstøl believes the products’ popularity ties into a bigger ‘green wave’ that is sweeping the country.

He said: “The green wave has been boosting in Norway, but especially Oslo.

“Two of the biggest supermarkets have even launched their own vegetarian lines with quite a few vegan products included. Coop & Rema 1000 launched lines including things like taco meat, burgers, ham, sausages, meatballs and more!

“On top of that there are loads of other independent brands popping up with brands like Oomph! and other meat substitutes. Dairy wise, plant based milks have been popping up everywhere with every supermarket carrying a big selection of milks from brands such as Alpro and Oatly.”
