A country hotel in the New Forest has launched a vegan cream tea – with gluten-free options available – in response to growing demand.

The menu at Careys Manor Hotel in Brockenhurst, which costs £24 per person, or £36.50 with a glass of Champagne, includes finger sandwiches, scones, and cake.

Both the vegan and the gluten-free afternoon teas are accompanied by a choice of Camellia artisan loose leaf teas or Fairtrade coffee – or a glass of Champagne.

According to a hotel spokesperson: “Vegans can enjoy a delicious twist on the traditional sandwich with miniature wraps of tomato, avocado, carrot and pomegranate, and open sandwiches topped with creamy avocado and falafel.

“Warm fruit scones are topped with a light coconut cream and homemade strawberry jam, and pastries include an apricot and pistachio tart, coconut chocolate truffles, a chocolate compote and a peanut butter crispy rice cake.”

Vegans who want a gluten-free afternoon tea should contact Careys Manor in advance.
