Restaurant chains have really raised their games recently when it comes to offering a range of plant-based foods.

Pizza outlet Pizza Express is the latest eatery to add vegan cheese to its menu – following hot on the heels of Italian chain Zizzi which incorporated plant-based ‘mozzarisella’ into its options last year.

In just over two weeks vegans will be able to tuck into a ‘cheese’-topped pizza at the restaurant, with the dairy-free option launching on June 20.

In addition, a new plant-based pizza – the pesto and veggie topped Vegan Giardiniera – will be added to the specials menu.

According to Holly Davies, Head of Food and Development: “For some time now, our customers have been telling us that they want a vegan mozzarella alternative on the menu and in parallel, the world of vegan ingredients has opened up and become so interesting, enticing and tasty too.

“Made in Italy using Italian ingredients, our new vegan mozzarella alternative melts perfectly in our pizza oven and gives a creamy finish to any recipe.

“To celebrate, we have taken some of our favourite ingredients and created a new pizza recipe that combines flavoursome artichokes with our new asparagus, red onion, garlic oil, black olives and seasoning on a classic dough and passata base to create our new Vegan Giardiniera.”
