Ice-cream brand Cornetto has announced that it is launching a new vegan cone in the UK.

The treat will be available from Sainsbury’s supermarkets from February.

The cone, which is said to be gluten-free, is dipped in dark chocolate and filled with soya ice-cream, then topped with nuts and more chocolate.

The cone launched in Italian stores last year.

Plant-based

A spokesperson for animal rights charity PETA said: “Cornetto has recognised that vegan eating is on the rise in Britain – more and more people are switching to a plant-based diet every year.

“Consumers who choose dairy-free ice cream spare cows immense suffering in the dairy industry and also help reduce the devastating environmental impact of animal agriculture.”

The launch follows news that Ben & Jerry’s added another two vegan flavors to its line-up this week.
