Cult favorite Hourglass Cosmetics has announced today that it will sell vegan-only products by 2020.
The makeup brand, which is cruelty-free, will eliminate animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax, lanolin (a wax derived from sheepskin), and carmine (a dye made from beetles’ wings) from its collections.
CEO Carisa Janes announced that the company will be asking bio-tech experts to find new animal-free ingredients that don’t compromise quality.
Vegan
“Luxury is a combination of innovation and integrity, and our values have always been exemplified in our commitment to creating cruelty-free products,” Janes said of the transition.
“If we are truly committed to being 100 percent cruelty-free, we shouldn’t have animal-derived ingredients in our products.”
Some of Hourglass’ bestsellers are already vegan, including its Veil Mineral Primer and the Ambient Lighting Palette.
