A brand new American-style diner will open in the UK today.
Located in Gateshead, Newcastle, the owners of Grumpy Panda Diner say it is the first of its kind in the North East.
The menu includes plant-based versions of classic favourite dishes, including fry-ups with homemade versions of bacon and eggs, as well as burgers, waffles and more.
Independent
According to the owners: “We’re an independent local family run business and we absolutely love what we do. We started out as an events catering company and found the North East was lagging behind on the vegan scene, so out popped our lovely little diner, right in the heart of Gateshead town centre.”
Coffee bar
While all food is 100 per cent plant-based, Grumpy Panda does serve dairy milk in its hot drinks and shakes.
Customers are advised: “Our coffee bar is vegetarian friendly which means your shakes and hot drinks can be served exactly to your taste, whether this be with plant based or dairy milk.
“We have separate equipment, prep areas and fridges for our milks so there’s absolutely no chance of cross-contamination. Just let us know what you’d prefer when ordering.”
‘Memorable’
Some people might be scratching their head wondering where the company’s unique name comes from.
“We’re often asked where our name came from but truth is, we haven’t got a clue! It just became a thing; it’s different, memorable and works with our colour scheme.”
