Beyond Meat’s plant-based sausages are to launch in supermarket giant Tesco on September 26.
The meat-free product will hit the shelves in more than 450 Tesco stores across the UK, priced at £4.95 for a pack of two.
According to the Grocer, Beyond Meat’s production will ‘eventually switch to this side of the Atlantic’ as the company is set to open a new factory in the Netherlands.
Making products ‘affordable’
“It’s a very big goal of mine to make these products more affordable,” Beyond Meat CEO, Ethan Brown, told the publication. “The challenge is that our scale is so small, but as we achieve greater scale in our supply chain, I have every confidence we can lower that price compared to other plant-based products and animal proteins.”
Beyond Meat shares
Earlier this year, Beyond Sausage was trialed at the fast-food chain Tim Hortons in selected stores across Canada.
The meatless sausage entered the menu in the form of the Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich, the Beyond Meat Farmers Breakfast Wrap, and the Beyond Meat Vegan Sandwich.
The announcement caused a 16 percent soar in Beyond Meat’s shares – following its debut on New York’s Nasdaq exchange back in April.
