The best supermarkets for vegans have been revealed in a poll.
The Big Vegan Survey 2019, carried out by magazine Vegan Food & Living, quizzed more than 8,300 people on their preferences when it comes to the best retailers and eateries for plant-based food.
The majority of the respondents who classed themselves as vegan or plant-based (75 percent) said they’d made the switch within the last five years. A mix of reasons was given as motivation – with animal welfare, the environment, and health all being cited.

Tesco and Sainsbury’s jointly clinched the top spot – with 19 percent of respondents classing them both as very good, and 40 percent as very good.
In joint last place were Aldi and Lidl, with just two percent of respondents classing the budget stores as very good for vegan options.
‘Another vegan boom’
“We were really excited to carry out this survey because so many companies make decisions about vegan products and services based on what they believe the UK’s vegans think and want – but we wanted to find out what the truth was,” publisher of Vegan Food & Living, Sally FitzGerald, said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.
“And what we found is that motivations are changing, and manufacturers and retailers have plenty of room for improvement in certain areas, but those who are getting it right, are well supported by the growing number of vegans in the UK.
“As we head towards Veganuary, and another vegan boom, we must all make sure that we are keeping up with what people want and need.”
