US-based footwear and accessory line PONS Avarcas has released
its first ever collection of vegan shoes to keep up with growing demand.
Vegan sandals
The shoes – which are made in Spain and inspired by some of the country’s
most popular styles – are usually made using leather but the brand now offers
vegan versions of the ‘Classic Style’ sandal in black, gray, brown, and taupe.
Founders Noelia Pahissa and Jose Fuentes developed the
leather alternative in collaboration with Spanish artisans to closely resemble the animal derived product.
Plant based
The new line was inspired by a shift in lifestyle for Pahissa
and Fuentes – who are not only business partners but a married couple.
Pahissa told VegNews: “The new collection reflects some of
the changes we’re making at home such as introducing a plant-based diet and
being more ecologically responsible.”
Growing demand
Pahissa also said the pair ‘saw a demand for vegan Avarcas
in the US market’.
PONS Avarcas is by no means alone in growing the range of vegan footwear options on the market.
Other recent vegan shoe releases include a new range of Birkenstocks,
and a sustainable Star Wars collection by PO-ZU, while celebrity Kat Von D’s hotly
anticipated vegan shoe line is due to debut later this year.
