An Australian footwear company’s products have been certified by The Vegan Society.

Holster, which was founded in 2001 by husband and wife Ben and Natalie Nothling, caters to men and women, and distributes its footwear to 2,500 outlets in 65 countries.

It is the first footwear brand in Australia to carry the Society’s trademark.

Animal lovers

According to Ben Nothling: “My wife Natalie grew up in Noosa and from a young age always felt a true love for animals.

“Our mission is to help prevent animal cruelty and embrace ethical production processes by producing shoes that do not contain animal products.

“This cause is very close to our hearts, which is why the brand has previously, and will continue to, support animal welfare causes.

“This passion for animals then led us into producing 100 per cent vegan footwear.

“The next step was to be certified by the Vegan Society and we are very proud of the fact that we are the first Australian footwear brand to be certified by such a renowned vegan organisation.”


Ben Nothling noted his excitement as the vegan movement grows, crediting social media and ‘expanding social awareness of environmental issues’ for the increased interest in the movement.

He said: “Globally the animal-free movement is on the up and we are proud to be certified vegan as it will allow holster to appeal to a whole new market of animal aware consumers.”

The first line of footwear carrying the logo will be launched this month.
