Irish service station, Applegreen, has launched a vegan sausage roll in over 80 stores nationwide.
‘See if you can go meat-free’
The plant-based product – ‘a delicious blend of soya bean, chickpeas, herbs, and spices, wrapped in a flaky puff pastry’ – is being sold at an introductory offer of €1.
Applegreen said: “It’s made in Ireland and tastes great, so ‘however you eat yours’, try it and see if you can go meat-free. Now you can go vegan for breakfast, elevenses or lunch.”
The Irish brand also offers a vegan Moroccan Poké Bowl, Falafel and Hummus Wrap, Fruit Salads, and a selection of cold-pressed fruit juices.
Vegan sausage rolls
Earlier this year, supermarket giant, Tesco, announced the release of its 75p vegan sausage roll. Instagram account Accidentally Vegan UK speculated that Tesco was ‘inspired by the Greggs effect’.
Roger Whiteside, Gregg’s CEO, said the plant-based product was the ‘fastest selling new product’ the bakery had launched in six years.
