A woman who suffered from ‘severe’ type 2 diabetes for almost two decades has changed her life after switching to a plant-based diet.
Janka Brezinová, 48 made serious changes to her health after following the Natural Food Interaction (NFI) diet, a protocol which was recently trialed at a National Institute in Slovakia.
According to Brezinová, she lost a large amount of weight on the plan, as well as significantly reducing her medication, and getting her energy back.

The NFI diet is a whole food, plant-based approach that goes one step further, by mixing and matching different plant foods in combinations that are tailored to an individual. It was founded by chemical engineer David Hickman and biomedical scientist Zuzana Plevova.
The pair have had impressive results with the diet in Europe, with a 97.2 percent type 2 diabetes remission rate in patients that have completed the protocol.
They approached Dr. Emil Martinka MD, Ph.D. – an acclaimed European diabetes researcher in Slovakia – who jumped at the opportunity to conduct a clinical trial.
“I am really excited that the NFI diet was introduced,” Dr. Martinka told Plant Based News after the study had started. “I am convinced that it will bring many benefits to our patients.”
‘I feel very good’
Brezinová reveals that even with a specific diet, tablets, and insulin therapy, she suffered damage to her organs over 20 years of having type 2 diabetes.
“So when I learned about the possibility of remission of diabetes, my decision was clear, I would aim to cure my diabetes,” she said. “At the beginning, it was difficult, so it was great that the first results came very quickly.
“I have followed the NFI protocol from February 8, 2019. Today on May 18, 2019, I am 21 kg lighter, taking no pills to promote insulin, and I have also adjusted my bolus insulin doses from 15-15-16 to 2-2-2 and basal insulin – a decrease from 28.6 units to the current 24.2 units.”
She added: “Initially, I had a BMI of 34.4, and body fat percentage of 37.9. Today my BMI is 28.3, and body fat is 27.2 percent. My HbA1c values have gone from ??from 10.1 to six . I know that I have a long and difficult journey ahead of me and I am firmly committed to it. I believe in it. Weight loss is just a side effect of a properly set up NFI diet.
“I feel very good and am finally able to do sports activities that I didn’t have enough energy to do before,”
“I love swimming and wellness. I like very long walks with my dog ??Miss Masenka, and I do not care if it is sun, rain or wind. I need fresh air and movement. Today I have the energy and opportunity to do it again.
