#Veganhour has been running on Twitter every Tuesday, 7-8pm UK time, since May 2013.

I saw a gap in the market, so to speak, and thought I’d put it out there to the great Twittersphere and see how it went. Little did I know how popular it would so rapidly become.

Even big brands such as Sainsbury’s and Holland & Barrett make regular appearances. We’ve also had the odd celebrity tweeting including Ben Fogle and Tony Robinson.

Fun

#Veganhour is a relaxed, fun, informative, and mouth-watering hour.

People share recipes, ask questions, share experiences, and tell us about vegan finds. You’ll regularly see it trending too.

Many of us plan our Tuesday evenings around #veganhour.

If I had to choose 5 reasons why I love #veganhour, they’d be:

1. New recipes

I love trying out new recipes, and the ones shared during #veganhour look so delicious that I simply have to make them.

2. Eateries

The rise in veganism is exponential, and consequently mainstream cafes and restaurants have had to come on board and offer vegan options. Likewise, new vegan eateries are popping up all over the place.

Many of us will share our latest discoveries and give our feedback.

3. Competitions & Promotions

Some of us vegan businesses like to do special #veganhour competitions and promotions – great for the customer and for the (often small) vegan businesses.

4. Travel guides

I know a lot of us base our holidays around food, so when people tweet us pictures of places they’ve visited on holiday, it can be exciting and enticing.

5. Raising the profile

#veganhour helps raise the profile of veganism further. Just look at the tweets and it gives a good insight into the lives and personalities of vegans.

Yes, we’re just normal people living compassionate lifestyles. If we can do it, so can you.

The fact that you’ll regularly see #veganhour trending (here cometh the trolls) can only help to raise the awareness even further.

Impact

Having massive brands participating in #veganhour displays the undeniably huge impact of veganism on the world.

Clearly, these brands feel the need to be part of it in order to benefit their own business. This can only be a positive for everyone.

Even Toby Carvery has tweeted about its range of vegan options (including dessert!). It also gives the consumer opportunity to feedback directly to businesses.

Businesses are acutely aware of the power of social media, and it’s amazing to see how they’re responding. Long live veganism!

If you haven’t already checked out #veganhour, now is the time. Well, the correct time is actually Tuesdays, 7-8pm UK time.

But I have one piece of advice for #veganhour, and that’s to eat beforehand… it’ll make you hungry!
