Viva! Founder Juliet Gellatley has appeared on the radio an impressive 51 times today – in a bid to campaign against UK Dairy Day, an annual industry event.

The veteran campaigner, who started prolific Bristol-based vegan group Viva!, made an appearance on shows around the country.

She said: “I was on everything, from Spectrum London, Big City Birmingham, to BBC Bristol and Juice Brighton.

“I did an interview for Leeds radio, talking about how suckling from a cow is unnatural, unnecessary, unhealthy, and cruel.

“I did many others which went out across 51 stations. All presenters were really interested, many changing, and some already vegan.”

‘Misery’

Gellatley took to Facebook to share her thoughts about the interviews – and about dairy.

She wrote: “The public are opening their eyes to the reality of the dairy industry, which subjects dairy cows and their calves to a life of misery.

“Standard practice is removing baby calves from their mothers and male calves being routinely shot shortly after birth.

“We don’t need to consume cow’s milk for strong bones and it is not beneficial to our health!

“In fact, cow’s milk contains a cocktail of 35 different hormones, such as oestrogen and progesterone, and 11 growth factors that are meant to turn a small calf into a fully grown cow in a year.”

Havoc

According to the campaigner, these hormones ‘can wreak havoc’ in your body.

She added: “They have also been linked to cancer, acne, and more.

“Dairy protein is hard to digest and can cause cow’s milk allergy, while dairy fat is linked to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes type 2.

“Whatever the claim, don’t forget you are being sold a product, even if it’s disguised as health advice.

“Not long ago, cigarettes were recommended by doctors – clever marketing bolstered by excessive funding is capable of reaching everyone!”
