Blondes, a vegan café in Cottingham, North Lincolnshire, has responded to criticism that a picture from its window display is offensive propaganda.
‘Swearing and propaganda’
Blondes was referred to as a ‘certain café’ in the Cottingham Community Facebook page, where a resident wrote: “I know people have different opinions but I don’t agree with swearing and propaganda as I walk past with my young child.”
It is believed the picture causing offensive is a meme of a baby lamb, captioned ‘eat your own leg. Leave mine alone a**hole’ – the comment has since been deleted.
Blondes posted on Facebook: “It seems the sign in our window has ruffled a few feathers! (Please excuse the non-vegan phrase!)”
67% of people don’t find the display offensive
HullLive conducted a poll that received over 1,000 responses, asking if locals were offended by Blonde’s window display – a third voted yes and 67 percent voted no.
One person wrote on Facebook: “First of all I’m not a vegan… I go in that cafe and they are fabulous people who care about all animals .. to be honest, if you are offended by that picture in a shop window I do wonder how you survive with all the offensive stuff we are bombarded with every day on social media and 24hrs news coverage of anything violent happening in this world… seriously if you are offended by that .. just walk across the crossing before the cafe and walk on the other side of the road”
Whilst another person disagreed, stating: “Everyone is entitled to be what they want whether it be vegan, vegetarian, carnivore etc. The thing is when posters like this are in windows, you are forcing your view on others. I’m all for people for having opinions and views, but this isn’t that.”
